چکیده
شهر، کلان­شهر، زمین، قلمرو، و حتی مقیاس­های کوچک­تر «ابنیه، راه­ها، میدان­ها، محله­ها، و...» با سابقۀ تاریخی خود متأثر از پدیدۀ زمان، لایه­هایی از تاریخ را با خود حمل می­کنند. لایه­هایی از تاریخ با مقطع طولی یا عرضی از شهر که به واسطۀ آن می­توان خطوط تصویری به­جای­مانده را بازخواند و آواهای خاموش و نشنیدۀ آن­ها را شنید. بدیهی است که هرقدر میزان قدمت و سابقۀ تاریخی مکان بیشتر باشد، به همان نسبتْ انباشت لایه­ها نیز افزایش خواهد یافت.می­توان دوگانه­هایی از شادکامی و غمگینی، زندگی و مرگ، فقر و ثروت، صمیمیّت و خیانت، معصومیّت و گناهکاری، و... را در فرازهای شاخص از هریک از­­ این لایه­های تاریخی بازشناخت. هر لایه­ای شاهدِ گذر زمان است. هریک از لایه­های تاریخْ افشا­کنندۀ بخشی از قلمروهای واقعی در زمانۀ خاص و در طول زمان است.زمانی که فضاها، «در­هم­آمیخته، بازسازی، یا دوباره الگوسازی» می­شوند، آثار لایه­های قبلی همچنان باقی می­مانند. به این سبب، مسیر پرپیچ­و­خمی ­در لایه­های تاریخی هست که از طریقِ آنْ هر متخصصی می­تواند بنا بر دانش خود لایه­ها را کاوش و بازخوانی کند، این اقدام از طریق «لایه­نگاری» میسر خواهد شد و سبب نمایانی لایه­های تاریخی می­شود. با این تأکید که هر لایه­ای قلمرو خاص خود را دارد و منتج ­از فرایندهای مختلف هم­زمانی و در زمانی است. قلمرو امروزی، چون همیشه، متأثر از عواملِ تاریخ زیست سرزمینی (فرهنگ)، اقلیم سرزمین (طبیعت)، و تحول فن و فناوری در زمان و در زمانه است که ردّ خود را بر پیکره، سیما، چهره، و نیمرخ قلمرو و مکان گذاشته­اند.هدف از این پژوهش، شناساندن رویکرد لایه­نگاری در تبیین و شناخت شهر است. روش پژوهش در مقالۀ حاضرْ کیفی و با تحلیل محتوایی برای تبیین روش لایه­نگاری شهری است. مقاله مروری بر رویکرد لایه­نگاری شهری است، روش­ها و نتایج گویای آن است که این روش را می­توان برای شناخت شهرهای کهن و حفظ تداوم تاریخی­شان به کار بست.

Palimpsest, A Tool for Explaining the Identity of the Historic City

The city, the metropolis, the land, the earth, and even the smaller-scale buildings, roads, squares, neighbourhoods...; convey layers of history through their backgrounds: layers through which one can read through the images inscribed in them, hear vanished voices. Obviously, the older the place the richer the accumulation of layers.
One can recognise dichotomies of happiness and sadness, life and death, poverty and wealth, confidence and betrayal, innocence and guilt ... in each of these historical layers. Each layer witnesses the passage of time, and unveils real realms of the memories. When spaces are "blended, rebuilt, or re-moulded," traces of previous patterns remains, suggests Brian Ladd in The Ghosts of Berlin in a deserted city.
There is a labyrinthine vision of the historical layers through which anyone, such as Walter Benjamin’s "Flâneur", can explore and reread palimpsests so that historical layers begin to unfold. The territory is not a specific product; it is the result of various processes over time. What forms the state of the territory today is affected by the natural or man-made, cultural or technological factors of the past; they have left their traces on the figure, the image, the face and the profile of the land and place.
The purpose of this study is to introduce the Palimpsest approach in explaining and understanding historical cities. The research method in this article is qualitative and with content analysis to explain the city Palimpsest method and its properties based on several questions .The study of this article is a review of the city Palimpsest approach and explores the methods and results that can be used to identify historical cities and preserve their historical continuity.
